My Record Collection by Andreya Triana

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of eccentric singer-songwriter Andreya Triana, let's see what she opts for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This was Bad by Michael Jackson. Pretty good as it goes."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt. This album was really popular when I was at secondary school and I’d listen to it every day on the way to school. When ‘Don’t Speak’ came out it had me and my friends all up in our feelings about the boyfriends we never had!"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I got given The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by a friend at college. I took it home, put it on my stereo and cried for the entirety of the album. It was so raw and down to earth, and I must have played it a million times since and have never got tired of it."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"I love the band Jungle and their first album of the same name is one of my feel-good staples. I saw them live a few years ago and they were incredible - I’d love to collaborate with them one day."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I'd have to say ‘Woman’, the lead single from my new album Life In Colour. It makes me feel really uplifted and reminds me to stay strong and keep going."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"For me, it's Pagodes by Jono McCleery. I think Jono is such an incredible artist. He came round to my house to write a song ages ago and I had to really hold it down and not fangirl him!"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"This is Santigold by Santigold. Glitter, collage, photocopier = WINNING!"

The record with my favourite title is…

"I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It by The 1975. It’s the longest and most unforgettable title ever!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"The XX's debut record. Seriously, I’ve tried but I just don’t get it!"

The last record I bought was…

"It was Awaken, My Love by Childish Gambino. I absolutely love him and played this album over and over again when I first heard it. It’s so fresh and I think he’s a genius."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"My new album Life In Colour. It’s been four years since my last album Giants and I seriously can't wait to share it with the world! You never quite know where the songs and music will take you and I’m looking forward to the ride."

The greatest record of all time is…

"In my opinion, it’s definitely The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It’s a timeless classic and something that means more to me the older I get. I got to meet her a few years back and shook her hand and said thank you for that album. It changed my life."

Andreya Triana's new album Life In Colour is released on May 24th.
