My Record Collection by As It Is' Patty Walters

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of pop-punk types As It Is and their singer Patty Walters. Let's have a look...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is ‪Taking Back Sunday - Where You Want To Be‬. ‪Still one of the greatest albums to have ever come out of this scene. Everything that our band knows - the riffs, the lyrics, the mic swings - we learned it all from Taking Back Sunday."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This would have to be ‪blink-182's Enema of the State‬. ‪It’s so strange to consider that the music video for ‘All The Small Things’ was one of the most prominent catalysts in my desire to play the guitar, which has altered and influenced my career and the words I’m currently writing, but life, undeniably, can be strange."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"It is ‪Owl City - All Things Bright and Beautiful‬. ‪Owl City is an expertly crafted sound like absolutely no other. This is the album that completely changed the way I create and layer sounds, the textbook I’ve studied a hundred times over."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"‪Mat Kearney's Young Love‬. ‪This album just feels like summer; warm, sincere, and infectiously fun."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Phoebe Bridgers and her album Stranger in the Alps. Without a doubt, my favourite album of 2017, and one of the most achingly, sweetly poignant albums I’ve ever heard."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I'd have to go with ‪Fightstar's Behind The Devil’s Back‬. ‪Truly one of the UK’s greatest modern rock bands, and criminally underrated. This band blows me away with every release, and their most recent is very possibly their finest.‬"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"This is ‪Circa Survive - On Letting Go‬. It's album art so beautiful that words would never do it justice."

The record with my favourite title is…

"This is ‪Armor For Sleep - What To Do When You Are Dead‬. ‪One of the greatest concept albums of all time in my opinion. This album probably influenced The Great Depression more than any other.‬"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"This is ‪Taylor Swift - reputation‬. ‪When this record came out, there were only two acceptable opinions for whatever reason. Either it was either the greatest or the worst record of all time. I don’t love or hate it, it’s just kind of there, like furniture."

The last record I bought was…

"It was CrazyEightyEight - Burning Alive. I’m in two bands, both released albums last year, and they were probably the only albums I bought last year."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"Grayscale. This band is about to take over the scene. I’m so proud to call these immeasurably talented and genuine humans my friends."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Has to be ‪The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds‬. The single most unique, ambitious and magical album ever made, but that’s just my opinion..."

As It Is's new album The Great Depression is out now in hmv stores.
