My Record Collection by Boston Manor's Henry Cox

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Blackpool punks Boston Manor and their frontman Henry Cox. Let's have a look at what he's picked...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory. Still one of the best albums from that era. Collision Course, the remix album they did, is really ahead of its time."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'd say Alexisonfire – Crisis. Not sure why. I think hearing fast angry songs in a minor key really struck a chord with me. I loved Dallas Green’s voice; I think every singer in a post-hardcore band at the time tried to emulate his sound."

The record I’ve played more than any other is…

"This is Johnny Flynn - A Larum. My favourite album to this day. Reminds me of home."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"It's Jackie Wilson - Higher & Higher. It’s just a happy song."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Well, probably the above if I’m trying to cheer myself up. But if I’m trying to wallow… anything from Radiohead’s catalogue or The Assassination Of Jesse James soundtrack."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I don’t think I’m qualified to say it’s the most underrated record of all time. I think most people would say someone like Nick Drake. But I think for me it’s either Frengers by Mew or Travels by Defeater. Frengers seems to just be this title that gets lost in music snob collections, but it’s some of the most developed and interesting music I’ve ever heard. Travels is just a straight up masterpiece in my opinion. One of the saddest stories told with such ferocity and desperation."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. Mogwai. The hardest album name going."

The record I can’t understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything by The Killers. Do not get that band."

The last record I bought was…

"I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside - Earl Sweatshirt. Listened to that album a fair bit since it came out and finally copped it. Although I tell a lie, it was actually a birthday present..."

The record I’m most looking forward to hearing in 2018 is…

"I’m hoping we’re gonna get an album from The Blinders this year; check them out if you haven’t heard of them."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Got to be Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. It's the best."
