My Record Collection by Brother Leo

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Swedish country star Ola Nils Håkan Svensson, better known simply as Brother Leo. Let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"2pac - Changes. I think I was 8 years old and had it on repeat for years. Brilliant."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Oasis - Wonderwall. It's one of my favourite records of all time. I've spent many hours posing in front of the mirror doing the Liam pose."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"This is Beck - Loser. I had my first beer to this song. It's associated with a very good first memory. I was also obsessed with the video."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Bon Iver - re: stacks. It’s the first record on my Don’t Get Depressed! playlist! It just speaks to me!"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Prince - Purple Rain. I remembering hearing it the first time. It just knocked me out. It sounded like nothing else. I've been a fan ever since."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Grace Jones's Island Life. It's iconic, pretentious and fun at the same time."

The record with my favourite title is…

"This has to be Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy. Those two words tell me a thousand things."

The last record I bought was…

"Robyn - Honey. I've always been a fan of Robyn. Her integrity, pure pop but still with a message. She’s really inspired me.  I will always buy her stuff on the release day."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek. It’s just got that honesty to it that deserves to be heard on a much bigger scale."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is...

"This is a hard one! I would probably say, Migos' Narcos. I can't hear what they're saying, I always think it’s really important to be able to hear lyrics in songs!"

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"The one that I didn’t see coming, the record that surprises me."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. It just has it all really."
