My Record Collection by Dimmu Borgir's Silenoz

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of death metallers Dimmu Borgir and their guitarist Silenoz, let's see what he goes for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"I think it was Somewhere In Time by Iron Maiden. I got into Maiden a little bit before that album came out and I’m pretty sure that it was the first one that I bought with my own money."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"It must have been around 1984, and it was either Kiss or Twisted Sister. But most likely Kiss! I just saw them on TV, and you know… it was just a wow moment for a 17-year-old. Amazing."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"It’s probably The Last Command by WASP. It’s just down to the overall sense of the record and the feeling from the 'Wild Child' video, back in the day. It just really gave me this feeling of escaping into the desert."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"'Headless Cross' by Black Sabbath. Which is not typical, I’m sure, but it’s a really great album. I mean, this is the one that makes me feel good without fail."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Dirt by Alice in Chains which is pretty much self-explanatory. But it’s a great album. Great sounding album, great songs, atmosphere, the essence of everything is fantastic."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I think The Duke by Jørn Lande would have to be my choice. It has this feeling of a killer hard rock album, but it also has a big mainstream approach. But it never made into the mainstream either…"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"I tend to go back to Live After Death by Iron Maiden time and time again, because of the dramatic blue and yellow theme. There’s just so many details on the cover. It’s one for me that really stands out as being extremely metal."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest. He always comes back for vengeance!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"I'd say Nevermore by The Obsidian Conspiracy, I didn't get it."

The last record I bought was…

"Judas Priest's Firepower. It goes without saying that I was very excited about this one."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2018 is…

"There are quite a few big expected albums later this year, and a couple for me would be the new Ghost and the new Tool. They’ve got one due later this year and we beat them to it!"

The greatest record of all time is…

"I’d have to go with Heaven And Hell by Black Sabbath. Because it’s Heaven And Hell! What more can I say!"

Dimmu Borgir's new album Eonian is out now and available here in hmv's online store.
