My Record Collection by Fickle Friends' Natassja Shiner

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of dance-poppers Fickle Friends and their singer Natassja Shiner, let's see what she picks...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It was 'Oops I Did It Again' by Britney Spears. On CD. From Woolworths. I remember being so stoked."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'd say it was Friendly Fires' first album. It made me wanna make music for kids like me, losing their minds at music festivals."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"It's Dan Croll's From Nowhere. We were lucky enough to get a copy of this record early and it was the only thing we had to play in the van for ages. It’s still one of my fave albums ever."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"I'd go for Beatenberg's The hanging gardens of Beatenberg. It’s the most feel-good, summery record and brings back amazing memories of driving around Los Angeles."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher. She is my go-to sad girl music in general, I love how dark she is. All the weepy creepy feels."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Mutemath - Odd Soul. This is in my top five albums of all time, not to mention probably my favourite band. This is the ultimate driving/running/living/breathing album. I feel like I’m living in a movie when I listen to it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Bon Iver - Bon Iver. This is undeniable. I feel like everyone I know has a copy of this record mounted on a wall somewhere."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus. I love the meaning behind this title. They said it was a childish thing, like unleashing a kid into a museum and they draw a moustache on the Mona Lisa or something. It’s just so iconic!"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Taylor Swift's Folklore. People are raving about this but I found it super dull. Guess I’ve always been more team Katy Perry than Taytay..."

The last record I bought was…

"It was Another Sky's I Slept On The Floor. My friends released this record this year and it is so special. Stunning, sonically and conceptually! Very proud to have this sitting at the front of my vinyl collection right now."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2020 is…

"I'm enjoying Everything Everything's Re-animator. They’re one of my fave bands. They fall into the category I like to call intelligent indie. There’s always something magic to found in every record they release."

The greatest record of all time is…

"It's Come on Over by Shania Twain. Every single song is a sonic masterpiece and an absolute HIT. "Still The One' is one of the greatest songs ever written."
