My Record Collection by Jungle's Josh Lloyd-Watson

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Jungle's Josh Lloyd-Watson, let's see what he chooses...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It was Hanson's 'MMMbop'. Don’t lie, we all loved that tune..."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"I'd have to say The Strokes' Is This It? One of the coolest bands and albums ever, made me wanna get a leather jacket like Julian Casablancas."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is Matty - Déjaàvu. Incredible songwriting and psychedelic sonic, really blew my mind when I first heard it..."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"I'd go for Supreme Jubilees' It’ll All Be Over. Even just looking at the cover makes me feel good, its pure soulful warmth from start to finish."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This would be Nina Simone's I Put A Spell On You. An emotional journey of a record, one song can break your heart and the next makes you want to climb a mountain."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"This is Minnie Ripperton's Come To My Garden. One of the most stunning records I've ever heard, the production and orchestration with her voice is insane."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Has to be Tame Impala's Innerspeaker. Pretty much perfectly sums up the music on this record."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Dangermouse's The Grey Album. He’s a clever mouse."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything Morrisey. Not The Smiths, but Morrisey’s solo stuff, I just never saw the appeal."

The last record I bought was…

"It was Sault's 7. If you haven’t heard it yet, get on it, really cool record."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"Frank Ocean. I think we’re interested to see where he goes after Blonde, right?"

The greatest record of all time is…

"Radiohead's Kid A. It may be a cliche choice, but it’s a masterpiece, probably the first record that got me interested in electronic music too, it's been quite poignant in my life."

Jungle's new compilation Back To Mine is out now in hmv stores and available here in hmv's online store.
