My Record Collection by Kings Elliot

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of British-Swiss singer-songwriter Kings Elliot, let's see what she goes for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It was Britney Spears' In the Zone. It was pocket money well spent because I absolutely adored this album."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Britney Spears' Oops I Did it Again. 100%. I sang the full album into a brush in front of my mirror every single day for a very long time and always got so mad and embarrassed whenever someone walked into my room."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"It's Tokio Hotel's Schrei. when I was 12 I was completely obsessed with them and I definitely rinsed this album to death. I even slept in front of the gig venue with my big sister so I could be in the front row and I never even told my parents. Sorry, mum and dad if you’re reading this..."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Can I just say a song? ‘Who Wants To Live Forever’ by Queen. I actually want it played at my funeral."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"I go for In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra. It is just so beautiful, so melancholic, so magical, brings me so much peace."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Banks' Goddess. She is in fact a literal goddess and this album completely swept me away."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"I don’t want to sound completely self-indulgent, but it is in fact my own! Everything is exactly how I had it in my head, so I could absolutely not love anything more."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Lorde's Pure Heroine. The album itself is also truly outstanding."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Baby Shark!” It’s the catchiest song on the planet but also the most annoying thing I’ve ever heard."

The last record I bought was…

"Fred Again - Actual Life. Aside from being a massive fan of Fred as a writer/producer, I spent so much of the pandemic lockdown holed up in the studio creating, and this feels like getting a glimpse into someone else’s parallel world. The songs are absolutely beautiful and emotive, with so much melancholy emerging through the beats."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2021/2022 is…

"Finneas' new LP. I love what he does as a producer, but his artist project is fantastic and I’m so curious to see his journey."

The greatest record of all time is…

"P!nk's I’m Not Dead. My mum and I danced, cried and listened to that album together religiously! Every single song is absolutely outstanding."
