My Record Collection by Lust For Youth

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of synthpop duo Lust For Youth, let's see what they opt for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

Hannes (Norrvide): "This was Will Smith - Getting Jiggy With It on CD single. What can I say? I had great taste back then..."

Malthe (Fischer): "I bought three CDs at the same time. Oasis's Definitely Maybe and What's The Story... as well as and The Beatles' Live at the BBC’. But the very first tape I bought was Kill Em All by Metallica, but that was not with my own money."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

Hannes: "That would probably be some punk record, I remember my dad had a great live record with Ramones - It’s Alive. I recorded it to tape so could listen to it on my walkman in school."

Malthe: "Nirvana - Nevermind was what made me switch from classical to electrical guitar."

The record I've played more than any other is…

Hannes: "Brainbombs - Obey or anything by Molly Nilsson."

Malthe: "Massive Attack - Mezzanine was the record that made me buy my first sampler, which was an Ensoniq ASR10, that eventually led me into producing. Sonically it’s still a constant reference for me. Before this, I was pretty much only listening to metal and practising ridiculous guitar chops on a seven-string Ibanez. So it literary changed my life."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

Hannes: "This is Jacques Dutroncq's self-titled from 1966."

Malthe: "For me, it's Burzum - Filosofem. In my school years, this was the record I played when writing assignments."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

Hannes: "When I’m down I’ll just play everything I used to listen to when I was a teenager."

Malthe: "Burial's Rival Dealer. If I had half an hour left to live this would be the record I’d put on."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

Malthe: "Lust For Youth - Solar Flare. It’s easily forgotten in all the other great work."

Hannes: "I'd go with The Go-Betweens' Tallulah. People don’t talk about the Go-Betweens enough. "

The record with my favourite cover art is…

Hannes: "It would be any Roxy Music cover, but I’ll go with their self titled album."

Malthe: "Kraftwerk - Autobahn. The one with the blue and white sign."

The record with my favourite title is…

Hannes: "This has to be Spacemen 3 - Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To."

Malthe: "For me, it's The Smiths - Meat Is Murder."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

Malthe: "Maybe Elvis Costello. Whatever record people like of his. I don’t get it."

Hannes: "Who likes Elvis Costello? It's an artist everybody agreed that no-one likes, I never heard of anyone liking him."

Malthe: "Some people like him. Trust me..."

The last record I bought was…

Malthe: "PAN - Mono No Aware. It was a pretty long time ago..."

Hannes: "Low Life - Downer Edn. They must be the best band from Australia at the moment. I'm playing this record constantly, at least once a week."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

Hannes: "The new Helm record. I’ve always liked Luke’s work and very curious about this one. A lot of my friends are praising it."

Malthe: "The upcoming Posh Isolation compilation.  I have had the opportunity to do the final master for this release and there are some really strong material here like Kyo w/ Jeuru, CTM, Puce Mary and the always ever amazing oqbqbo."

The greatest record of all time is…

Hannes: "It's the new Lust For Youth album. It's like our previous records, but this is better."

Malthe: "Absolutely."

Lust For Youth's new self-titled album is out now.
