My Record Collection by Moderat's Gernot Bronsert

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Moderat's chief noisemaker Gernot Bronsert...

(You can find a selection of the tracks Gernot recommends in the playlist below...)

The first record I ever bought with my own money was...

Rebel MC - Word Sound Power

"I remember I got 50 DM for my birthday and went to the only record store in the area where I lived. I bought it because I liked the cover. It shows a big woofer with the words 'WORD SOUND POWER' on it."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

Electric Ladyland Vol.1 Compilation auf Mille Plateaux

"Well, I actually was in a band… then I bought this record. The band was called 'Illuminati' - a breakcore industrial band where I was the DJ. I used unconventional records to scratch unconventional sounds. For one of our songs I used a beat from 'Technoanimal' for scratching...."

The record I've played more than any other is…

Maurizio - M4

"You can call this record the unofficial soundtrack of Berlin. This record prepares you for a long weekend, you know… a really important piece of music from Berlin."

The record that always make me feel good is…

The Notwist - Boneless

"The Notwist are probably the most important German band from the past 10 years. Their unique and emotional sound - especially on 'Boneless' - creates a feeling of warmth. You should have a listen."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

Fat Joe - What's Luv?

"Haha, well, nothing else to add, right?"

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

Anstam - Names

"Lars Stöwe aka Anstam is a brilliant musician from Berlin. He has got a significant portfolio of music as well as fine art. 'Names' is a masterpiece but unfortunately it didn't get the attention it deserves."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

Eisenpimmel - Komm mal lecker unten bei mich bei

"Google it and you know why. This cover really is a particular piece of german culture ;-)."

The record with my favourite title is…

Moderat III

"Well, it took us a while to come up with this title. It's simple, has symbolic power and great aesthetics..."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

Moderat II

"Sometimes you can't listen to your own music any more. In this case it's our second album."

The last record I bought was…

Skeemask - Shred

"A young talent from a small village in the Bavarian alps. It has a timeless feel and stands for a new generation of producers of rough electronica sounds."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2016 is…

The new Radiohead album

"Well, we are all waiting for it, right?"

The greatest record of all time is…

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

"This record is perfect. Each song is a masterpiece. That's what I think at least - listen to it and make up your own mind."
