My Record Collection by Peter Bjorn and John's Peter Morén

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Swedish whimsical pop trio Peter Bjorn and John and their keyman Peter Morén. Let's see what he picks out...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This was probably The Housemartins' London 0 - Hull 4. Or at least the first full length. Still an amazing record! Love those guys!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Well that was even earlier and it was probably ELO's Out Of The Blue, because of the spaceship. It seemed cool to live in one of those. Also, the music was good."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"This is probably Chet Baker Sings. It always works."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Early Little Richard. I have a scratchy old four-track-EP on London Records with 'She's Got It', 'Slippin & Slidin' and a couple more. It don't get better than that. I love 7-inches in general. I trý to find my old favourite songs on 7-inch."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"If I want to stay down and calm..Stina Nordenstam '..and she closed her eyes'. To go up I would go Smokey Robinson maybe, the Going to a Go-Go album. Or maybe Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, like a best of.

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Of all time is too tough a question..probably everything by Peter Bjorn And John ;). But a lot of McCartney albums are seriously panned. But maybe the tide is turning slightly there?  However one of his most hated ones are maybe Wild Life right? I really like that one a lot. I like his excentric side. London Town is great too. Even "bad" Macca is way more entertaining and rewarding than other peoples best stuff."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Sebadoh's Bakesale. Or The Jam's Sound Affects. And the cherries on Macca's first. Otherwise I generally love simple ones with great photos of the artist. Like Elvis' first, the one that Clash nicked. Also Go Betweens' Before Hollywood. Unless we go with Out of the Blue again, that darn spaceship..."

The record with my favorite title is…

"The Kinks' We Are the Village Green Preservation Society is a good one. Also one of my favorites as an album."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Probably Pink Floyd "Dark side of the moon" or something like that. Snoozefest. Metal in general."

The last record I bought was…

"Big Thief's Capacity, some old Everly Brothers LPs and Tim Hardin, the one with a very long title...can't remember. I bought those at the same time. And the Swedish band Bergen."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"Vampire Weekend's new one. Tiny Ruins..but already heard that. Weyes Blood. Lots of stuff. That unreleased Marvin Gaye record."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Unheard of. I believe in music still and the future."
