My Record Collection by Pretty Vicious's Elliot Jones

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of Welsh hellraisers Pretty Vicious and their drummer Elliot Jones. Let's see what he goes for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"The first record I ever bought with my own money was Oasis's Stop The Clocks. I was about 12 and was in my full-blown indie phase at the time. Is there a better record to start with?"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"This was Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s debut record. Still the coolest band around to this day for me."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"The record I’ve played more than any other is probably Pearl Jam's Ten. I mention Pearl Jam at least once in basically every interview I do. I just can’t help myself, the songs on the first three albums are just so good."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Client Liaison's Diplomatic Immunity. I’ve only recently discovered these but the music is so unbelievably chill I can’t believe I’ve been through so many summers without this music to soundtrack them."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"For this, it's probably something like Kid Cudi Man On The Moon. Something introspective and an obvious classic."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"This has to be Space Monkeys Daddy Of Them All. ‘Sugar Cane’ is one of my all-time favourite songs. Check it out now, you seriously won’t regret it."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Public Enemy - Fear Of A Black Planet. Cool as f**k and impactful at the same time."

The record with my favourite title is…

"This is Beastie Boys' Licensed To Ill. Does this even need explaining?"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"There isn’t really a record around that I can’t understand why anybody likes. Everyone’s taste is subjective innit? That’s the beauty of music. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure... saying that I’d still probably go with one of Bowie’s later albums personally. Obviously, the man’s a legend, but I never really got fully into it you know?"

The last record I bought was…

"The last record I bought was Wolf Alice Visions Of A Life. I’m a big vinyl fan AND a big Wolf Alice fan so getting this on vinyl when it first released was an experience to say the least..."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is…

"The record I’m most looking forward to hearing in 2019 is our debut album. Duh..."

The greatest record of all time is…

"This has to be ABBA’s Gold. No explanation needed for this surely?"
