My Record Collection by Rudimental's Amir Amor

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of dance experimentalists Rudimental and their multi-instrumentalist Amir Amor, let's see what he chooses...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is Fugees' The Score. I'd seen the video for 'Ready or Not' on Top of the Pops and managed to persuade my mum to buy the album for me for my birthday if only she knew how dirty, the lyrics were she wouldn’t have bought it and my life would be so different!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Parliament's Mothership Connection. George Clinton is my biggest influence, my idol. Years later I met him and I've now collaborated with him a few times and we’ve even jammed at my London studio Major Toms. How times have changed!"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Outkast's SpottieOttieDopaliscious. It samples Genesis and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. One of the funkiest genius things ever made."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Gap Band's 'Outstanding'. Somehow this song lifts me up every time, Charlie Wilson has the most incredible presence. There might be some music in the pipeline with me and him too..."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"D’Angelo's Voodoo. Especially 'The Root', one of my faveD'Angeloo songs ever. He understands!"

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"All time is a long time, but I do think 'Abstract Dragon' by Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip is legendary. Some of Q-Tips finest beats are on it too."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle. Based on Pedro Bells covers for P-funk, it's more like a funky comic and created this whole cartoon-like fantasy around Snoop - funky as fu**!"

The record with my favourite title is…

"Funkadelic's Electric Spanking of War Babies. Mix acid and politics - this is what you get…"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Anything by Bloodhound Gang. My friend played me some the other day… I don’t get it."

The last record I bought was…

"I'm a bit late to the party, but J Cole's KOD. He just seems to be getting better and better."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2018 is…

"I'm looking forward to what Foals do next. They come out with magic every once in a while…"

The greatest record of all time is…

"That's tough because there are different records for different parts of life, but I think the most important albums to me are: Lauryn Hill's Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Radiohead's OK Computer. All three have consistently moved me and changed me."
