My Record Collection by The Driver Era's Ross Lynch

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of pop duo The Driver Era and their singer Rocky Lynch, let's see what he goes for...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"It was the soundtrack to Across the Universe. Growing up in a big family, I never had to worry about purchasing music because I could get it from someone else by just plugging my iPod into their computer. I don't think anyone had this and I really liked it after watching the movie. This was kind of my introduction to The Beatles, surprisingly."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"It was Fall Out Boy's Infinity On High. Me and all my brothers loved Fall Out Boy growing up, we used to cover their songs all the time. They are a huge reason we started playing music as a band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Prince - Purple Rain. I'm a huge Prince fan. Who isn't? Actually, my girlfriend didn't really know much Prince, but now she does. I brainwashed her. Now she loves him..."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Has to be Exodus by Bob Marley. There's never a bad time for reggae. It's always a vibe. And Bob Marley is the greatest of all time. Never gets old to me."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"Everybody digs Bill Evans. I love the piano. I can listen to just piano all day. I love Bill Evans' romantic flair."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"Mac Miller's Swimming. RIP Mac. This is the last record he released while he was alive and it slaps."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Wings' Back to the Egg. People release records that have this same style all the time nowadays. But this was the OG back in 1979."

The record with my favourite title is…

"It's Jimi Hendrix's 8. Are You Experienced? I mean, are you experienced? Will you ever be?"

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica. I'm not sure anyone actually likes this record, it has the craziest sounds you'll ever hear, described as music. I don’t get it."

The last record I bought was…

"I got The 1975's self-titled record. I really like The 1975. They honestly soundtracked a lot of my late teen years growing up. I have some great memories attached to a lot of their songs."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2021 is…

"I don't even pay attention, I'm too focused on what we're making."

The greatest record of all time is…

"It has to be History - Past, Present and Future - Michael Jackson. I'll never get sick of Michael Jackson. I started listening to these songs when I was a baby and I still listen to them regularly today. Marvellous."
