My Record Collection by The Ramona Flowers' Sam James

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of indie types The Ramona Flowers and their axemen Sam James, let's see what he offers up...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"This is Red Hot Chilli Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I was into skateboarding at the time and this just suited it so well. It’s properly in your face too which I loved!"

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"Nirvana - Nevermind. I loved that Kurt Cobain was so anti-rock, but combined pop hooks with dirty heavy riffs. I grew my hair, wore ripped jeans and started a band."

The record I've played more than any other is…

"I'd say Radiohead's The Bends. This is a classic. Every song is a winner, it never gets old."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"For me, this has got to be Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty The perfect album for driving on a beautiful, sunny day. Golden LA vibes."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"This is Kate Bush's 50 Words For Snow. This album is the most atmospheric album I’ve ever heard! With headphones on, it transports you to the silence of a winter wilderness. So beautiful."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I have to pick my own, The Ramona Flowers' Strangers."

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon. It's just the most iconic album cover ever made."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. It’s long but brilliant and a genius debut album."

The record I can’t understand why everyone loves is…

"Everything by Drake. Yep. Enough said."

The last record I bought was…

"Snow Patrol's Wildness. This is a beautiful album, and nice to hear something raw from a proper band. Not many real albums being made like this at the moment."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2018 is…

"Ariana Grande's Sweetener. Embracing the pop!"

The greatest record of all time is…

"This has to be Led Zeppelin's I, it's obvious…"
