My Record Collection by VEPS' Laura Dodson

In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians' souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it's the turn of rising Norwegian alt-poppers VEPS and their guitarist Laura Dodson, let's see what she chooses...

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

"To be honest, I don't remember. It might have been a Lana Del Rey album actually. I listened to her a lot when I was around 11 and 12 because my dad picked up her album."

The record that made me want to be in a band was…

"It was KISS's Dynasty. I was a little kid! I used to dress up as Ace Frehley, my childhood friend would be Gene Simmons and we’d perform 'I Was Made For Loving You.'"

The record I've played more than any other is…

"Radiohead's In Rainbows. It's an album where no tracks are skipped."

The record that always makes me feel good is…

"Has to be Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream. I always listen to it on summer road trips."

The record I turn to when I'm feeling down is…

"It's White Chalk by PJ Harvey. A very different, but cool album from her. Perfectly mellow."

The record I think is the most underrated of all time is…

"I'd choose Sibylle Baier's Colour Green. I discovered it by accident one day and I’ve loved it ever since. The story behind it is beautiful too!"

The record with my favourite cover art is…

"The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band's Part One. I love the orange and purples."

The record with my favourite title is…

"Yo La Tengo's And then nothing turned itself inside-out. I like albums with long sentences as titles. It sets the mood so well."

The record I can't understand why everybody loves is…

"Arctic Monkeys' Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. It’s cool that they tried something new and all, but it just didn’t hit right with me. I like their older stuff better."

The last record I bought was…

"Pom Poko's Birthday. One of the best Oslo bands. And the singer Ragnhild used to be our band instructor when we were 15..."

The record I'm most looking forward to hearing in 2022 is…

"I'm not sure. I know Interpol is working on a new album so I’m excited to hear that."

The greatest record of all time is…

"Arcade Fire's The Suburbs. It has been such a vital part of my growing up. Like the soundtrack to my adolescent life!"
