Take Me to the Alley

New Release of the Month: Gregory Porter – Take Me To The Alley

Decca Records

Whether you've been following the career of Gregory Porter since his 2010 debut album Water, or whether he was brought to your attention as a result of last year's collaboration with Disclosure for their hit single 'Holding On', the velvet-voiced singer has been steadily earning himself an army of fans over the last few years. His brilliant new album Take Me To The Alley is due to arrive on May 6th and features his new single 'Don't Lose Your Steam' as well as a downtempo jazz rendition of 'Holding On'. In addition to the regular black vinyl version we also have an exclusive limited edition white vinyl edition of the new LP, which you can pre-order on the right-hand side of this page.

(Stay tuned for an exclusive interview with the man himself arriving later this week right here on!)

Off the Wall

Reissue of the Month: Michael Jackson - Off The Wall

Off The Wall is an album that needs no introduction, even for the most casual Michael Jackson observer, but Spike Lee's recent documentary on the subject sparked a wave of rediscovery for many fans and on May 6th the album will become one of three Jackson LPs to get the reissue treatment on 180g vinyl, along with Thriller and Bad. We could have picked any one of those to be honest, but Off The Wall is special; at the beginning, Jackson is on the cusp of greatness, by the end, he's achieved it.

Purple Rain

One from the Archives: Prince – Purple Rain

Warner Bros.

From one all-time great to another, our final pick this month couldn't really have been anything else. Prince was a singular talent and his death last month was a loss felt around the world, so what better way to pay tribute to the passing of a genius than by giving one of his greatest albums a spin on your turntable. Purple Rain transported Prince to the stratosphere of superstardom and its soundtrack is packed with classics from start to finish, especially its show-stopping title track. We predict there will be plenty of vinyl reissues from his extensive catalogue at some point in the near future, but if you're looking to start your own Prince vinyl collection this is good a place to start as any.
