Tove Lo’s Lady Wood - What You Need To Know
After slaying 2015 with her megahit ‘Talking Body’, Norwegian singer Tove Lo returns with her second full-length effort Lady Wood today (you can preview and purchase it on the right-hand side of the page). Here is everything you need to know about it...
A little background…
Tove Lo, or Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson as she is formally known, is the latest singer to follow the path from out of the shadows of songwriting for others and into the spotlight themselves. Once part of Xenomania and superstar writer Max Martin’s collective, her credits include Girls Aloud’s ‘Something New’, The Saturdays’ ‘What Are You Waiting For?’ and both Ellie Goulding hits ‘Love Me Like You Do’ and ‘Still Falling For You’.
She made her solo bow in 2014 with her debut album Queen Of The Clouds, a record which went largely undiscovered until her single ‘Talking Body’ began clocking up radio play, this kicked the album into life and it would go on to sell over a million copies. She followed this in 2015 with well received collaborations with Adam Lambert and Nick Jonas and now returns with her second LP, an album that has already produced one hit in ‘Cool Girl’...
Who’s Producing It?
As you’d expect for a woman with Tove Lo’s contact book there is plenty of high class production assistance. The majority of the album sees her work with rising Swedish production duo The Struts, but there are also collaborations with Ilya Salmanzadeh, another of Max Martin's protégés, Joel Little, who is Lorde's go to guy, and OzGo, best known for his work with Tori Kelly.
Any Special Guests?
Two. Rapper Wiz Khalifa lends his gravel throated flow to ‘Influence’, while singer-songwriter Joe Janiak is on a track titled ‘Vibes’.
What Does It Sound Like?
Glacial, quirky pop music. Pulsing synths, driving percussion and bombastic choruses, all topped off with Tove Lo’s elegant, but irreverent vocals. It’s bruising and powerful electronica.
Does It Deliver?
Absolutely. This is icy cool interesting pop music, it should push Tove Lo into households all over the country. You won’t have to wait long for more either, with her third album already planned to hit shelves in 2017.
