Warpaint's 'Warpaint' – What You Need To Know

Warpaint sucked everything in with their graceful psychedelic debut The Fool back in 2010 and have taken their time over its follow-up. Here's what you need to know about their new self-titled second album…

What’s The Background?

Warpaint have taken their time in writing and recording their second full-length effort. The band toured incessantly in support of The Fool, visiting the UK numerous times and seemed a constant presence on the summer festival circuit.

Eventually, at the tail end of 2012, the band found time to write and record this album, splitting sessions between Los Angeles' Five Star Studios and London's Assault and Battery Studios.

In keeping with their career thus far, the band chose to debut much of it live as part of a full European tour late last year, meaning hardcore fans have had the chance to hear much of the record already…

Who's At The Controls?

This time around the band have opted to work with Flood, the producer who's worked with everybody from U2 through to Nine Inch Nails. Recently, he's worked with Foals, Goldfrapp and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and gives the record the same lilting sheen that he provides on all those recent albums.

What Does It Sound Like?

The record keeps the sensibilities that have made fans all over the world fall in love with the LA foursome, it's dreamy, full of keyboard and guitar drenched in psychedelia and gloriously hummable bridges and choruses.

What Are The Standout Tracks?

'Keep It Healthy' is a delight as is 'Biggy' (the band's ode to legendary rapper Biggie Smalls), while the epic 'Hi' will be a live favourite for many years to come.

Does It Deliver?

Completely and utterly. It's spacey, rhythmic and always captivating. You can pre-order it from our download store now and hear the band's recent single 'Love Is To Die' below.
