Watch an exclusive performance of 'No Woman, No Cry' by Sheku Kanneh-Mason
Unless you're a fan of classical music, you may not have heard the name Sheku Kanneh-Mason before, but the Nottingham-born cellist was named as the BBC's Young Musician of the Year in 2016 and this week sees the release of his debut album, which features a selection of classical pieces and a couple of contempoary favourites with a classical twist.
Inspiration arrives in stores today and was recorded at two concerts in his hometown of Nottingham and in Birmingham alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The album includes his rendition of Shostakovich's 'Cello Concerto No. 1' - the piece which earned the young cellist his place in history as the first black winner of the BBC's long-running competition - as well as his own versions of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' and Bob Marley's 'No Woman, No Cry'.
To celebrate the release of his debut album, below you can find an exclusive performance of Sheku's version of the Bob Marley classic. You can also find his album here in our online store...
Inspiration is available on CD in hmv stores now. A vinyl edition of the album is set to arrive on March 16th, you can pre-order your copy here.
