Moonfall

Starring: Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Donald Sutherland

Release Date: February 4th

 

Roland Emmerich's taste for the gigantic continues with this huge new blockbuster. 

The story begins with the discovery that a mysterious force has knocked the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sent it hurtling on a collision course with Earth. 

Halle Berry's Jo Fowler, a NASA executive and former astronaut, is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Patrick Wilson's Brian Harper and a conspiracy theorist named K.C. Houseman believe her.

The unlikely trio then mounts an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love, only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is...

Emmerich directs and has co-written the screenplay with Spenser Cohen. 

 

The Northman

Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Björk, Ralph Ineson, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe

Release Date: April 22nd

 

After the success of his oddball dramas The Wvtch and THe Lighthouse, director Robert Eggers takes it up a notch with his new offering. 

His new movie, with its very starry cast, is set in 10th Century Iceland. It stars Alexander Skarsgård as Viking prince Amleth, the man who is strongly suggested to have been the inspiration behind William Shakespeare's Hamlet.

We will follow Amleth as he sets out on a mission of revenge after his father is murdered...

 

The King's Daughter

Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Kaya Scodelario, Benjamin Walker, William Hurt, Rachel Griffiths, Fan Bingbing

Release Date: January 21st

 

Production on this fantastical historical epic wrapped up at the end of 2014, but after bouncing between studios and distributors, it's finally due for release in early 2022. 

Adapted from Vonda N. McIntyre's The Moon and the Sun novel, the film begins with Brosnan's Louis XIV, who, in a quest for immortality, captures and steal a mermaid's life force.

Subsequently, his decision is further complicated by his illegitimate daughter's discovery of the creature and a bond being created...

 

Distant

Starring: Anthony Ramos, Naomi Scott, Zachary Quinto

Director: Will Speck, Josh Gordon

Release Date: September 16th

 

Ramos, who starred in this summer's hit extravaganza In The Heights, leads this sci-fi drama. 

Ramos plays Andy, an asteroid miner whose ship gets struck by an asteroid, sending him to an alien planet, where he contends with his AI survival suit.

To make it through, he connects with fellow crew member Naomi via radio, who is trapped inside her own escape pod and losing oxygen...

Written by Extinction and Moonfall scribe Spenser Cohen, the film has been developed by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. 

 

Uncharted

Starring: Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, Antonio Banderas

Director: Ruben Fleischer,

Release Date: February 11th

 

At long, long last, this movie finally comes to screens!

The Uncharted game series has sold over 28 million units across the world and follows treasure-hunter Nathan "Nate" Drake as he travels around the world to uncover various historical mysteries. A movie version of the game has been in active development since 2008. 

Now realised, the film sees Holland play Drake, while Wahlberg plays Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Drake's partner in adventure and mentor. 

We follow the two as they go in a dangerous pursuit of “the greatest treasure never found” while also tracking clues that may lead to Nathan’s long-lost brother.

Ruben Fleischer, director of Venom and Zombieland, is in charge of the movie, with Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle among the supporting cast.

Starring: Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt, Chloe Coleman

Director: Scott Beck, Bryan Woods

Release Date: April 29th

 

Beck and Woods, writers and creators of A Quiet Place, have crafted a spooky new sci-fi thriller. 

Driver plays an astronaut who crash lands on a mysterious planet only to discover he's not alone.

And that is all we know...

 

Wolf

Starring: George MacKay, Lily-Rose Depp, Paddy Considine, Eileen Walsh, Fionn O'Shea, Lola Petticrew

Director: Nathalie Biancheri

Release Date: March 18th

 

This tender new drama, with its supernatural twist, arrives in the Spring. 

Mackay plays a boy named Jacob who suffers from species dysphoria and believes he is a wolf. 

After being committed to psychiatric care following an attack on his brother, he meets and befriends the other patients, who also believe themselves to be animals.

He forms a close bond with an enigmatic patient known only as "Wildcat", and together they roam the hallways at night...

 

Tuesday

Starring: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lola Petticrew, Arinzé Kene, Leah Harvey  

Director: Daina O. Pusic

Release Date: TBC

 

Julia Louis-Dreyfus will lead this tender fantastical comedy. 

The story will follow dying teenager Tuesday, who had hoped to use her remaining life to repair her relationship with her mother, Zora.

But when Death, a size-shifting macaw who's been alive since the dawn of time comes to collect her, they form an unexpected bond.

Using her wit, Tuesday persuades her unlikely new friend to grant her more time so that she can say goodbye to her mother. But as the world slowly crumbles in Death's absence, mother and daughter must find a way to prevent the apocalypse...

 

Mario

Starring: Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen

Director: Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic

Release Date: December 21st

 

The beloved video game gets a big-screen reboot for the 21st century with Chris Meledandri, the creator and overseer of the Despicable Me franchise, taking a key role. 

Pratt will voice Mario, Taylor-Joy will voice Princess Peach, Day will play Luigi, Black will voice Bowser and Key will voice Toad. 

We don't know much, but we do that, as ever, we'll follow a plumber named Mario as he travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess...

 

Dark Harvest

Starring: Casey Likes, E’myri Crutchfield, Jeremy Davies, Elizabeth Reaser, Luke Kirby

Director: David Slade

Release Date: September 23rd

 

David Slade, best known for his horror hit 30 Days Of Night, oversees this gory new flick. 

In this story, we find ourselves in a small Midwestern town, where each Autumn a supernatural spectre named Sawtooth Jack arises from the cornfields and approaches the town’s church, where violent gangs of teenage boys hungrily await their chance to confront the legendary nightmare in an annual harvest rite of life and death.
