22 Jump Street's Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to write Lego Movie sequel
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the men best known for directing 21 and 22 Jump Street, have announced that they will be returning to write the sequel to The Lego Movie.
According to Deadline, the pair, who are not confirmed to direct the sequel yet, will begin work on the script for the follow-up, which has been given a release date of 2018.
It was announced earlier this month that the Lego representation of Batman in the recent smash-hit animation The Lego Movie is set to get its own spin-off.
The character, who was voiced by Arrested Development star Will Arnett, has proved to be so popular that studio bosses have now decided to give it its own sequel, which is due for release in 2017.
Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on The Lego Movie, will direct the spin-off, with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith writing the script.
The Lego Movie was a huge hit earlier this year, raking in almost $500 million at the box office. As well as Arnett, it featured the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.
