Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain team up with acclaimed director JC Chandor for the tense and very dark thriller A Most Violent Year and it’s out on DVD next Monday (May 18th). Here’s everything you need to know about it:
What’s The Plot?
We’re in New York and it’s 1981, a dark, dark time for the city that never sleeps. Notorious for having more rapes and murders than any year on record, it’s in the middle of this that Abel Morales is trying to establish himself as a big-time player in the heated oil industry. Despite the presence of crime and some very rich criminals all around him, Morales is determined to make his business a legitimate success. Trouble is, his trucks keep getting attacked and the police are trying to bring him down with threats and intimidation, will he manage to resist temptation and stay on the straight and narrow?
Who’s In It?
Oscar Isaac leads the way as Abel Morales, with Jessica Chastain also starring as his wife Anna Morales and David Oyelowo as Lawrence, the police detective spearheading the investigation against Morales. There are also key roles for Albert Brooks, Alessandro Nivola, Elyes Gabel and Ashley Williams.
Does It Deliver?
This is a taut and tense thriller, full of twists and turns, it’s dark, it’s pretty violent at times, but it’s ever so gripping. Well worth investing in.
A Most Violent Year is released in hmv stores on DVD and Blu-Ray on Monday (May 18th).
