A Quiet Place Part II - Five Reasons You'll Love It

Though in John Krasinski and Emily Blunt it had a Hollywood power couple who were at the top of their game, there wasn't an awful lot of hype around A Quiet Place when it arrived into cinemas in the spring of 2018.

The film starred Krasinski and Blunt as Lee and Evelyn Abbott, a married couple with two children who are forced to live in total silence thanks to the presence of some mysterious and terrifying creatures occupying the farm where they live, and who will hunt and attack them at the slightest noise.

But, after taking over $340 million at the box office, a sequel was swiftly ordered and arrives in cinemas next week after three enforced postponements due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Blunt is back to star, with Cillian Murphy and Djimon Honsou joining the cast for the sequel, while Krasinski is on writing and directing duties.

A Quiet Place Part II hits cinemas next week, but we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love this horror sequel...

(Be warned, there are some minor spoilers below if you've not seen the first film...)

The scope is much wider...

The first film was, by design, a claustrophobic encounter, which led the audience into its world slowly. A lot of the tension came from the lack of clarity around the monsters and how they hunted the few surviving humans that still remained. Now, with the world opened up, and the beginnings of a fightback, this film was always going to widen its scope. It does so effectively, and, at a tight 90 minutes at a whipsmart pace.

But the tension is still unbearable...

We might move around a bit more, but the tension is still ratched right up and you'll find your hands constantly wandering up to cover your face.

The sound design is incredible...

Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl scored an Oscar nomination for their work on the original and they can expect similar acclaim this time.

The new additions are well chosen...

Cillian Murphy plays Emmett, a former family friend of Krasinski's Lee. A gruff survivor, he fills Krasinski's role well, with Djimon Honsou also well-chosen in his role.

But the real stars are Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe...

The pair were both outstanding in the first film, giving moving performances, but their storylines revolved around their complex relationship with their parents. This time they're older with wills and storylines of their own and they absolutely deliver.

A Quiet Place Part II is released into cinemas on June 3rd and will be available to pre-order on DVD on the same day.
