Andrew Lincoln to leave The Walking Dead

Andrew Lincoln is to leave The Walking Dead.

Lincoln, who has portrayed Rick Grimes on the show since its debut in 2010, will leave mid-way through the ninth season.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lincoln will be phased out across season nine. The same treatment will happen to co-star Lauren Cohan, the star who plays Maggie Greene, will film only six episodes of the new series.

Cohan has a new role as the star of FBI drama Whiskey Cavalier, but Lincoln has yet to reveal any of his future plans.

While both Lincoln and Cohan are leaving, star Norman Reedus will not be, with a new deal on the table worth over $20 million for the show's ninth run.

The show's ninth season is now in pre-production and will be broadcast later this year.
