Andrew Scott set to join the cast of His Dark Materials
After his BAFTA-winning performance as Jim Moriarty in Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's Sherlock, Andrew Scott's most recent TV role saw the Irish actor quickening the pulses of the nation in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's hit show Fleabag as the much-discussed “Hot Priest”, but now he's lined up for another return to TV screens which looks set to be no less exciting.
Scott is set to become the latest addition to the increasingly impressive cast of His Dark Materials, an upcoming TV adaptation of Philip Pullman's novel series of the same name being developed jointly by the BBC and HBO.
However, Scott won't be appearing in the new show's first series, which has already wrapped on filming and is due to be broadcast later this year. Instead, Scott will appear in the show's second season in the role of explorer Jopari / Stanislaus Grumman, a character who plays a key role in the second of Pullman's novel series The Subtle Knife.
The announcement of Scott's involvement was made on Twitter by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is set to star in the first series as aeronaut Lee Scoresby. Scott joins a list of cast members which also includes James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson, Anne-Marie Duff, Helen McCrory. Ruta Gedmintas and Omid Djalili, to name a handful.
No release date for the new series has been confirmed as yet, but the show is due to make its arrival late in 2019.
