Anne Hathaway's Barbie delayed until 2020
The live-action adaptation of Barbie, which is due to star Anne Hathaway, has been delayed until 2020.
The movie was due to star Amy Schumer, but she dropped out of production last summer and was replaced by Hathaway.
In the movie, Hathway was due to play a character who lives in Barbieland among the 180 different barbies with different careers and winds up getting kicked out as she is a bit eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mould. She then goes on an adventure in the real world but returns to Barbieland to save it from destruction.
The reboot was originally hit to hit cinemas this summer on June 29th in 2018, but has now been delayed until May 8th in 2020.
Newcomer Alethea Jones is directing the film, while Juno scribe and Schumer are among the writers who have contributed to the script.
There have been 36 animated Barbie movies made over the years, but this would be the first live-action take on the hugely successful range of toys.
