Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen to be new Candyman
Yahya Abdul-Mateen, star of hit blockbuster Aquaman, is set to be the new Candyman.
The 1992 horror hit is getting a spiritual sequel, which will be overseen by Get Out maestro Jordan Peele.
Candyman is a one-armed man with a hook for a hand who appears when you say his name five times, in front of a mirror.
In the 1992 film, the character, who is thought to be a myth, he is brought back to life by grad student Helen Lyle, who has decided to write a thesis about local legends and myths.
Abdul-Mateen will play the titular character, with The Girl In The Spider's Web's Lakeith Stanfield playing an artist in the city who researches the legend of Candyman. This research, as you might expect, has some unpleasant side effects...
Peele has written the script with Win Rosenfeld, with Nia DaCosta, director of forthcoming dark drama Little Woods, on directing duty.
The take on Candyman is due in cinemas in June 2020.
