Aretha Franklin biopic Respect delayed for a second time
RESPECT, the new biopic of singer Aretha Franklin, has been delayed for a second time.
The film was due to be released into UK cinemas on August 21st in 2020, but, amid the coronavirus pandemic, it was delayed until January 22nd in 2021.
According to Deadline, it has now been pushed for a second time, with producers MGM bumping it to August 13th.
Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson plays the singer. The film will chart her career from a childhood singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom.
Starring alongside Hudson are Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
Theatre veteran Liesl Tommy directs, working from a script from Tracy Scott Wilson.
