Best TV of August 2018: previews five of the best shows... previews five of the most exciting TV dramas that will be coming to your screens in August...

(Sky Atlantic)

Brian Cox, Matthew MacFayden and Sarah Snook lead an all-star cast in this cutthroat drama about the family behind a global media empire.

Cox plays Logan Roy, the founder of media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar Royco. Logan is planning to step back and leave the running of the company to his four children, but which one will play the leading role?

Only clocking in at seven episodes, HBO have already commissioned a second run of the drama after it was a hit in the US.

This drama has been written by Peep Show creator Sam Bain with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay serving as executive producers.

(BBC Three)

Greg Davies, Twilight star Taylor Lautner and Helen Baxendale reunite for the fourth season of the hit BBC comedy.

The show follows a middle-class family whose daughter returns home from a summer abroad married to a charming but infuriating eccentric named Cuckoo.

For the first run, Cuckoo was played by Andy Samberg, but Lautner took over in the second series and remains there now.

(Sky Witness)

Angela Bassett stars alongside Connie Britton and Peter Krause in this new drama, which has been created by Glee/American Horror Story key man Ryan Murphy.

The series follows a team of police, paramedics and firefighters as they deal with extraordinary challenges, all the while trying to keep their own lives together...

Age Before Beauty

(BBC One)

Polly Walker and Robson Green lead this rousing six-parter from Poldark and Cutting It scribe Debbie Horsfield.

Walker stars as Bel, a homemaker who has just waved her twins off to university, leaving a void in her life.

Enter Green's Teddy, her brother-in-law and long-time best friend, who begs her to step in and rescue the family business - a down-at-heel beauty salon in Manchester.

When she accepts, not everyone is happy, most of all her own family...

(Sky Witness)

Alan Cumming leads the way in this thrilling drama as university professor and former CIA paramilitary officer Dr Dylan Reinhart.

Based on James Patterson's bestselling Murder Games, we follow Reinhart as he is forced to team up with New York police detective Elizabeth Needham when she needs his help to stop a serial killer who is using his book as inspiration for murders.

Bojana Novakovic plays Needham with Lovesick's Daniel Ings, Lost's Naveen Andrews and Whoopi Goldberg among the supporting cast.
