BAFTAs Quiz 2019
It's the Oscars this weekend with another brilliant year of cinema to be celebrated with a glitzy ceremony.
The ceremony takes place on Sunday (February 24th) at Hollywood's Dolby Theater.
Alfonso Cuarón's drama Roma and Yorgos Lanthimos's period piece The Favourite lead the pack with no fewer than ten nominations each, while Bradley Cooper's hit musical A Star is Born is also amongst the favourites with eight nominations across all categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Original Song.
Ryan Coogler's Black Panther becomes the first ever superhero movie to receive a Best Picture nomination and will compete against Roma, The Favourite and A Star is Born, as well as Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, Peter Farrelly's historical drama Green Book and Adam McKay's Dick Cheney biopic Vice.
The Best Actor category looks to be one of this year's most hotly-contested, with Rami Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury and Christian Bale's performance as former US Vice President Dick Cheney both looking like early favourites, but they'll also face competition from Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) and Willem Defoe (At Eternity's Gate).
Glenn Close could end her winless run at the Oscars this year, receiving her fourth Best Actress nomination for her role in The Wife, but she will also face a tough run-in against Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Lady Gaga (A Star is Born), Yalitza Aparicio (Roma) and Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?).
