Ben Whishaw says that the Freddie Mercury biopic is on hold.
Ben Whishaw has said that the long awaited Freddie Mercury biopic, in which he has been touted for the lead role, is currently on hold. Speaking to Time Out, he said that he didn’t know what was causing the delay in the production. “Actually, I don’t know what’s happening, it seems to be on the back-burner,” said Whishaw, “It was going, then there were problems getting the script working.”
Sasha Baron Cohen was attached to star as the Queen frontman, but left the project a year ago amid rumours that he was clashing with producers over the film’s tone. Skyfall star Whishaw was lined up replaced him in the role, but the film suffered another setback when director Dexter Fletcher also dropped out earlier this year.
