Over the next two weeks, we're going to be previewing 100 of 2018's best movies. We continue with the best of horror...


The Shape Of Water

Starring: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Lauren Lee Smith, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer

Guillermo Del Toro’s latest effort is tipped for serious awards action, with Sally Hawkins the clear favourite to take home the Oscar for Best Actress.

The movie is set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America in 1963 and follows Hawkins' Elisa, a mute middle-aged woman who works in a hidden high-security government laboratory is trapped in a life of silence and isolation.

Bored and lonely, Elisa's life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment...




Starring: Helen Mirren, Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke

Director: The Spierig Brothers

Release Date: February 2nd


In this seriously spooky new effort, we find Helen Mirren's Sarah Winchester on an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven days a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms.

To the outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness, but it is actually an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters…

A Quiet Place

Starring: Emily Blunt, John Krasinski

Director: John Krasinski

Release Date: May 4th


Real-life couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski star as a couple living on a farm with their two children. In order to survive, they must stay silent, but when the couple's son knocks over a lantern, creating a small commotion, all hell breaks loose.

Krasinski himself directs, working from a script from Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, writers of hit horror flick Nightlight.



Ghost Stories

Starring: Martin Freeman, Alex Lawther, Nicholas Burns, Andy Nyman and Jill Halfpenny

Director: Andy Nyman

Release Date: April 13th

Andy Nyman brings his very successful stage show to the big screen as he directs, writes and takes a starring role in this new chiller.

Nyman plays Professor Phillip Goodman, an arch sceptic who embarks upon a terror-filled quest when he stumbles across a long-lost file containing details of three cases of inexplicable 'hauntings'.



The Nun

Starring: Taissa Farmiga, Demián Bichir, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu and Bonnie Aarons

After the success of Annabelle, The Conjuring gets a second spin-off, this time focusing on the "Demon Nun" character Valak from The Conjuring 2.

In the movie, we find ourselves in 1952 at the Cârța Monastery in Romania, where a nun, a priest and a novitiate are tasked with investigating the mysterious death of a nun.



The Slender Man

The House With A Clock In Its Walls
