"These characters aren't goody two-shoes..." - hmv.com talks to the cast & director of Birds of Prey
Margot Robbie returns to the big screen as Harley Quinn this week, leading the way in new adventure Birds Of Prey.
The film sees her teaming up with three other female heroes, Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya, to rescue a little girl from a crime lord named Black Mask. It is set after the events of Suicide Squad and she has parted ways with the Joker...
Fargo star Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Huntress, with Underground actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez playing Renee Montoya.
Huntress is a vigilante crime fighter, motivated to strike back at the mafia after the death of her family, while Black Canary is a world-class martial artist with a superpower: the "canary cry", a high-powered sonic scream which could shatter objects and incapacitate enemies. Montoya is a Gotham police detective who gets a taste for vigilante justice.
Ewan McGregor plays Black Mask with Chris Messina and Ella Jay Basco also in the supporting cast.
Dead Pigs director Cathy Yan takes charge of the project, working from a script from Bumblebee's Christina Hodson.
With Birds of Prey, or to give it its full title Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)..., about to arrive in cinemas we sat down for a chat with Robbie, Yan, Winstead, Smollett-Bell and Basco about bringing the movie to the big screen...
Birds Of Prey is released into UK cinemas on Friday (February 7th) and will be released on DVD later this year. It will be available to pre-order from hmv's online store from Friday.
