Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston set for the villain role in Star Trek 3?
Bryan Cranston has reportedly been approached to take the role of the villain in Star Trek 3.
According to Film Divider, the Breaking Bad star has made contact with makers Paramount about the role after he was made aware that the movie's villain was being described as "Bryan Cranston-like".
The report also suggests that the three instalment in the rebooted franchise will feature three new female characters, one of whom is the captain of another Federation ship, the other the President of the United Federation of Planets and finally Leonard “Bones” McCoy’s ex-wife.
Last month Justin Lin, best known for directing four instalments of the Fast & Furious franchise, signed up to direct Star Trek 3.
Robert Orci, who acted as both writer and producer on Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, will now no longer direct the third instalment. Orci had been announced as the film's director earlier this year, replacing JJ Abrams who left to work on Star Wars, but has now returned to his role as producer.
Shooting on the next Star Trek film is expected to commence next year after the script is complete, with stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho are all expected to return.
Lin will begin work on the film as soon as he has finished his role as director on the first two episodes of True Detective. Simon Pegg is to co-write the film's screenplay, co-writing with writer Don Jung, creator of hit series Dark Blue.
