Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum in as Marvel confirms full cast for Thor: Ragnarok
Marvel has confirmed the key cast for the forthcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
Joining a returning Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Jaime Alexander, will be Cate Blanchett, Creed star Tessa Thompson, Dredd's Karl Urban, Jurassic Park mainman Jeff Goldblum and Mark Ruffalo, who will bring The Hulk to the movie.
Blanchett will play the movie's villain Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death, who is based on the Norse goddess, Hel, while Goldblum is cast as The Grandmaster, one of the elders of the universe, a role that will most likely see him turning up in more than one movie.
Thompson will play Valkyrie, a new love interest for Thor, who is based on the Norse mythological figure Brynhildr, with Urban playing Skurge, a fearsome warrior.
Speaking about the casting, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige said: "The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet."
He continued: "The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible."
The movie, which will be directed by Taika Waititi, best known for his work writing and directing Flight Of The Conchords and vampire spoof What We Do In The Shadows, is due to hit cinemas in on October 27th in 2017.
