Channing Tatum confirmed to star as Gambit in new X-Men spin-off
Channing Tatum is now confirmed to take the role of Gambit in a new X-Men spin-off, reports Deadline.com.
The 22 Jump Street star had been long rumoured to be playing Gambit in a new spin-off, but there's now more news for the project in the shape of screenwriter Josh Zetumer.
Zetumer, who has previously scripted the glossy remake of RoboCop, is signed on to write the screenplay for Gambit. He will work from a treatment by legendary Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont.
Gambit, who was previously portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is a mutant who can mentally create, control and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his every whim and desire. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and skilled incard-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a bō.
Tatum is currently filming the sequel to Magic Mike, which is to be titled Magic Mike XXL. He will next be seen on screen in critically acclaimed drama Foxcatcher and big-budget spi-fi epic Jupiter Ascending.
