Charlotte Gainsbourg in talks to star in Independence Day 2
French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg is in talks to take a key role in new blockbuster Independence Day 2, according to reports.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gainsbourg, who is best known recently for her work with director Lars Von Trier and her starring roles in his controversial film series Nymphomaniac, is in talks to take a key role in the long-awaited sequel.
If talks are successful, Gainsbourg will join The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth and Survivor's Remorse leading man Jessie Usher as well as a returning Jeff Goldblum in the sequel.
It was confirmed last year that Fox had finally given the go ahead for the sequel to Independence Day, with production slated to begin in May of this year, with a planned release date of June 24th in 2016.
Director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter Dean Devlin have been working on a sequel to the 1996 movie for well over five years, but finally got approval from Fox in November.
According to reports, Usher's role will to play the son of Captain Steven Hillier, the role played by Will Smith in the original blockbuster. Smith has currently said he will not be returning for the sequel. Hemsworth looks set to play the son in law of President Whitmore, played originally by Bill Pullman.
Independence Day starred Smith, Goldblum and Bill Pullman and focused on a disparate group of people who converge in the Nevada desert in the aftermath of a destructive alien attack, planning their last stand against the alien invasion. It grossed over $800 million at the box office.
