Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michelle Pfeiffer join cast for Maleficent 2
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michelle Pfeiffer are among the new additions to the cast for the sequel to Maleficent.
The sequel, which will see Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning return to star, will enter production later this year. Ed Skrein is tapped to play the film's villain, with Robert Lindsay also a new addition to the cast.
As well as this, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville will also return to reprise their roles.
Maleficent, which took over $750 million at the box office upon release in 2014, is a live-action fantasy prequel to the 1959 Disney animation based on the classic fairytale.
Jolie played the title character, an evil fairy who cursed an infant princess to eternal sleep, only then to realise the young girl was the only one who could save the kingdom from its dangerous ruler.
For the sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Joachim Ronning will direct, with Jez Butterworth and original writer Linda Woolverton working on the script.
The new movie's plot will pick up several years after the first and will explore the complex relationship between Jolie's Maleficent and Fanning's Princess Aurora, who is soon to be the Queen.
Together they will form new alliances and face new enemies in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
