Corey Hawkins opens up about plans for a Straight Outta Compton sequel
Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins has opened up about the chances of the movie getting a sequel.
The movie grossed over $200 million at the box office and producers have openly talked about plans for a sequel, but Hawkins, who played Dr Dre in the movie, said he wasn't so sure that a sequel would work, but he certainly wouldn't rule it out.
Speaking to hmv.com in an interview to be published on Monday (January 11th), Hawkins said when asked if he thought there would be a sequel: "I don’t know. There’s been a lot of talk about a sequel and if F. Gary Gray and Dr Dre and Ice Cube and everybody wanted to sit down and talk about a sequel I’d be there, but I think it’d be hard to do a sequel because Eazy-E isn’t there and that was the whole point of this movie."
He continued: "I don’t know if you can replicate success, movies like this come around once in a blue moon and I think it’d be really hard to top it. We’re all perfectionists, Dr Dre is, Cube is, I am, Gary is, if it’s not going to be right then I don’t think we’ll do it.”
Straight Outta Compton is released on DVD, Blu-Ray and hmv exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook on Monday (January 11th). You can pre-order it on the right-hand side of the page.
