"The first two weeks in the crawl space were really brutal..." - hmv.com talk to Kaya Scodelario & Alexandre Aja
French director Alexandre Aja made his name throughout the 00s with gory horrors such as Switchblade Romance and a remake of The Hills Have Eyes before later moving into the realms of fantasy and the supernatural with films such as 2013's Horns and 2016 thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax, but for his latest movie he's gone back to his horror roots for a new movie which is being described in some quarters as doing for alligators what Jaws did for sharks.
Crawl makes its arrival in cinemas today and stars Kaya Scodelario as Hayley, a young athlete and swimmer from Florida who is forced to head back home to find her dad when a category 5 hurricane forces an evacuation of her hometiown. Trouble is, neither her nor her sister are able to get hold of their father, so when she arrives at her dad's condo to find it empty and his car missing, she decides to look for him at their former family home. What she finds there is a horrific ordeal that ends in a battle with nature to save her father - and herself - from an extremely grizzly fate.
With Crawl in UK cinemas now we sat down with Alexandre and Kaya to talk about bringing the new alligator-filled horror to the big screen.
