Danny Boyle confirms he is developing script for new James Bond, plans shoot at the end of 2018
Danny Boyle has confirmed reports that he is developing a script for the next James Bond movie.
Last month, it was reported that Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting director Boyle was the producer's choice for the role, but that no formal offer had been made as yet.
Then, it was reported that Boyle, along with writer John Hodge, had pitched an alternative story for the next Bond film, an idea which has interested producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson enough to pursue it.
Boyle has now confirmed that and says he and Hodge are actively working on the script. He also said his first priority is to shoot a comedy, written by Richard Curtis, but he hopes to do the next Bond at the end of 2018.
He told the Metro (US): "We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now. We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”
Reports last year had linked Yann Demange, best known for directing fiery thriller 71, Arrival/Blade Runner 2049 helmer Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie, director of Oscar-nominated drama Hell Or High Water, with the gig. Villeneuve has now ruled himself out, but if Boyle isn't involved, then Mackenzie and Demange will be back in the mix.
It is already confirmed that 007 will return to action in November 2019, with November 8th in that year booked in for a US release and a slightly earlier date in the UK. Daniel Craig is confirmed to return for a fifth and likely final time.
