Danny Boyle reveals he is planning Trainspotting 2 to be his next movie
Danny Boyle has revealed that he is planning to shoot the sequel to Trainspotting as his next movie and that all four of the film's key cast members want to return.
Boyle, who is currently promoting his new movie Steve Jobs, told Deadline when asked about the sequel that "All the four main actors want to come back and do it. Now it's only a matter of getting all [the actors'] schedules together, which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series."
Trainspotting starred Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle, and Kelly Macdonald and was based on the novel by Irvine Welsh. It was released in 1996 and told the story of a group of heroin addicts in late 1980s Edinburgh.
The sequel, which has a script from John Hodge, who also wrote the screenplay for the original, is largely based on Welsh's own sequel Porno, which was published in 2002.
