The sequel to Pacific Rim has already been through a number of delays, although Del Toro has always maintained it will get made.
The movie starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Idris Elba and was set in the future where a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, in the midst of that a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon and try to save humanity.
The movie grossed $411 million at the box office and was a particular hit in China, leading a sequel to be ordered, but an initial release date of August 2017 was cancelled by Universal Pictures. It's not known when the movie, which now has DeKnight at the helm, will hit cinemas.
