Dave Franco to play rapper Vanilla Ice in new biopic

Dave Franco is to play rapper Vanilla Ice in a new biopic.

Franco has worked with writers Chris Goodwin and Phillip Van, who have written the script for the biopic, which is to be titled To The Extreme.

Speaking to Insider about the project, Franco compared it to The Disaster Artist, his project with his brother James about the making of The Room.

He said: "With [The Disaster Artist], people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was — that’s the tone we want for this one as well."

Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Rob Winkle, is best known for his hit single 'Ice Ice Baby'. He has sold over 10 million records across his career and release six full LPs.

Franco added that he is speaking to the rapper regularly, saying: "Rob is such a sweet and intelligent guy and he’s been super helpful in the process of getting all the details correct and making us privy to information the public doesn’t know. Just talking to him I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role."
