Deadpool 2 - Five Reasons You'll Love It

It seems bizarre now, but it actually took an awfully long time for Ryan Reynolds to bring Deadpool to the big screen.

The actor first entered talks about taking on the role back in 2004, eventually making his debut in 2009 with a supporting role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but after a lukewarm reception for that movie and the character more generally, it was put on a shelf.

It took four years of further development, test footage and endless scripts before the movie was greenlit, even then it was given the go-ahead with a budget of $58 million, a tiny slice of what most superhero flicks cost.

But, after scoring $780 million upon release in the summer of 2016, a sequel was swiftly ordered and arrives in cinemas today (May 15th).

The sequel sees Reynolds’ Wade Wilson return and face off against Cable, a time-travelling soldier and well-loved nemesis from the X-Men comics. To help him in the fight, Deadpool forms a team of mutants called the X-Force to protect a young mutant from Cable.

Josh Brolin and Atlanta star Zazie Beetz take major roles in the sequel with Brolin playing Cable and Beetz portraying Domino, a key part of X-Force.

Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Jack Kesy, Terry Crews, Rob Delaney and Stefan Kapičić are also in key roles, while John Wick co-director David Leitch takes charge of the sequel.

The film arrives on DVD shelves on Monday (September 17th) and is available to pre-order on DVD, Blu-Ray and Steelbook, exclusive to hmv, here. But, to get you ready for the carnage, we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you’ll love it…

The action sequences are taken up a notch…

If you’ve seen the trailers, you’ll have a seen a sneak peak of the movie’s fiery action set pieces, especially Deadpool’s trip to prison and the team’s attempt to intercept a convey. Just wait until you see the full thing, it’s absolute carnage!

Josh Brolin’s Cable is a revelation…

Brutal, uncompromising and cool as you like, Brolin’s gruff, physical take on the time-travelling soldier is a total revelation and a worthy adversary for Deadpool.

As is Zazie Beetz’s Domino…

Wise-cracking, dynamic and full of life, Beetz is an excellent addition to the franchise.

It’s very, very funny…

The first movie’s perfect mix of slapstick sequences and killer one-liners are present and correct in the sequel. Be prepared to laugh, a lot...

Things are set up very nicely for the next instalment…

Reynolds has already been full of talk about the future of the franchise and X-Force taking centre stage. We’ll give nothing away about the ending, except to say things are set up very nicely for the next instalment to be more of a team effort...
