Despicable Me 3 - What You Need To Know
Given the first two Despicable Me movies and its spin-off Minions grossed over two billion dollars between them, it was also nailed on that we’d be back for a third run. The third instalment wowed audiences just as much, nailing a billion itself at the box office when it hit cinemas earlier this summer, and now it arrives on DVD (It’s out on Monday and you can pre-order it on the right-hand side of the page).
Here is everything you need to know about the Minions’ fourth adventure...
Who's in it?
Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Steve Coogan and Miranda Cosgrove all return to lend their voices to the new film, while Jenny Slate and Trey Parker are new additions to the roll call.
And who's directing?
Pierre Coffin, the man behind the voice of the Minions, returns to direct, as he has done with every previous Despicable Me. This time he’s helped out by Kyle Balda and Eric Guillon, working from a script from Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, who've penned all the previous movies as well as The Secret Life Of Pets and The Lorax.
What's the plot?
The new instalment follows Carell's Gru, now a retired supervillain, as he faces off against Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who grows up to become obsessed with the character he played in the 1980s and has designs on a deadlier kind of fame. As well as this he also winds up getting into some sibling rivalry when he meets his long-lost twin brother, Dru.
Does it deliver?
Absolutely. The minions are as charming and hilarious as ever and the story is fun and full of excellent gags, while Parker’s Balthazar Bratt is a tremendous villain. There’s no release date as yet for the next movie in this series sadly, but both a sequel to spin-off Minions and a fourth instalment of Despicable Me are in development, which is just as well...
