Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller open up about their departure from Star Wars young Han Solo spin-off
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have opened up about their departure from the new Star Wars spin-off about young Han Solo.
The pair departed the project in June, midway through filming, after disagreements with producers and were replaced by director Ron Howard.
Now, speaking at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles, the 22 Jump Street directors have spoken publicly about their departure from the movie.
Lord said of the decision to remove them from the movie: "The experience of shooting the movie was wonderful. We had the most incredible cast and crew and collaborators. I think in terms of us leaving the project, I think everybody went in with really good intentions and our approach to making the movie was different than theirs."
He continued: "That was a really big gap to bridge, and it proved to be too big. Sometimes people break up, and it’s really sad, and it’s really disappointing, but it happens and we learned a lot from our collaborators and we’re better filmmakers for it. We’re really proud of the work we did on the movie and we wish everybody the best.”
Miller added: "As Phil said, we had such a great relationship with cast and crew, we were really rooting for them. After we took a much-needed vacation, we got back into it and now we’re writing and producing a sequel to The Lego Movie and producing a Miles Morales animated Spider-Man.”
The movie, which is titled Solo: A Star Wars Story, is due to be released on May 25th in 2018 and so far there have been no announcements about a delayed release.
Alden Ehrenreich, star of Hail, Caesar and Beautiful Creatures is to play young Han Solo in the much-anticipated new Star Wars spin-off, with Donald Glover, best known for his roles in Community and The Martian, taking the role of young Lando Calrissian, while Game Of Thrones' Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson also have key roles in the spin-off.
This movie is the second Star Wars spin-off following the release of Rogue One - A Star Wars Story, which is out on DVD now.
