Disney confirms Maleficent and Jungle Book sequels
Disney has confirmed that it will be producing sequels to both Maleficent and The Jungle Book as well as confirming a series of other movies.
According to Variety, as welll as confirming the sequels Disney also revealed that it is moving forward with Selma director Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, a new adaptation of the widely read Christmas Eve fairy tale, which Dear John director Lasse Hallstrom attached.
Also confirmed are a Tinker Bell spin-off with Reese Witherspoon, Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and a live-action Dumbo, which will be directed by Tim Burton. In addition to this, a Cruella DeVil spin-off with Emma Stone in the title role and a sequel to Mary Poppins led by Emily Blunt are also planned.
The studio also announced release for five of their planned movies, which would not confirm which movie will occupy which. They plan to release an untitled Disney live action fairy tale on July 28th 2017, April 6th 2018 and on December 22nd 2019. The company will also release live action movies on August 3rd 2018 and on December 25th 2018. Though it's not confirmed, the sequels to The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins are expected to be two of these five movies.
