Disney orders live-action Aladdin prequel Genies
A live-action prequel to Aladdin is in development at Disney, it has been confirmed.
The movie, which is to be titled Genies, will focus on the story of the Genie that grants Aladdin his three wishes and how he came to be enslaved inside a lamp.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the plan is that this movie will be the precursor to a brand new live-action version of Aladdin, which will then go into production.
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, best known for their work on Freddy Vs Jason and the Friday The 13th remake, will write the script for Genies,
This is the latest in Disney's spate of live-action orders that follows the success of 2014's Maleficent and this year's box office smash Cinderella.
As well as all these, new adaptations of Beauty And The Beast, Prince Charming, Pinnochio, Mulan, Dumbo and The Jungle Book are currently in either production or developlment.
Aladdin was released in 1992 and grossed over $504 million at the box office, with Scott Weinger and the late Robin Williams among the voice cast. The film is available to order on DVD and Blu-Ray here in our online store.
